Pyramids: Part Two

Roommate # 1 donated these pictures of the day to my purposes, allowing me to offer further evidence that I live among dwarves and elves. One roommate comment on the pictures (specifically that of # 3 and posted yesterday) is that it looks like those scenes in The Lord of The Endless Movie Trilogy where the cast was computer animated to look like giant humans and weensy hobbits. Except no special effects were used in the creation of these images.


A cool aspect of the pictures I didn't comment on before: the proximity of the city. You can see the apartment houses and stores of Giza, a residential suburb, in the background. People live up to walking distance of the pyramids, it seems, and from the sphinx there's a lovely view of a KFC/Pizza Hut restaurant. Presumably, they've also views of the pyramids from their bathroom windows, and there's an elegant hotel out there from which you can see the pyramids while lounging in the pool.

These giant stones were apparently put together without anything between them except, perhaps, some oil to lubricate placement. I always knew the pyramids were very big and imposing; it's not as if I've never seen a picture of them before. But seeing things in person, and touching them, and sitting on them, is something else entirely.


I suppose you could add that climbing inside the pyramid would contribute a whole new dimension of understanding. I might be reborn an ancient Egyptian and thus be small enough to shop at the local shoe store. But if it hasn't happened yet. . .

Although I might be willing, at some time, to ride one of those rickety camels.
