A Resident's Guide to the Wildlife of Maadi

Welcome to the wilds of Cairo. Here in the distant, forested region of Maadi, many strange creatures stalk the streets. For instance: walking home from the bus on any given afternoon, you might find on my street:

Four horses! I am not sure where they live, but it is obviously somewhere near me as they have been spotted repeatedly, grazing in the median of my street.

Move down the main drag toward the pet store where you may encounter:

Ducks and a monkey!

The monkey wears a collar around its dainty waist and can be seen jumping, grabbing fingers and colluding with the local canines.

Finally, in the supposed safety of my very own apartment lives a giant beast:

The Gatsby-monster. Beware her jaws of terror. She has been known to devour whole bottles and to chew on paper towels at the slightest provocation.

The monster dog sure does not look happy.
